Our History

Sunwest Pensions was formed in 1998 to provide clients with a flexible and innovative approach to qualified retirement plans.  We are aware of what business owners go through in trying to create retirement plans that mean something to your company.

Sunwest Pensions strives to create an environment for our clients that can take care of their retirement plan needs.  Our staff has a culture of providing top notch service and communication to our clients.  This includes guidelines for responding and communicating about their retirement plan.

In addition, we work with you to present innovative plan design options based on your goals and objectives….not ours!  We look for options that you may not have ever considered.

Senior Staff

Theresa Conti, APR, QKA, ERPA
President

Theresa Conti has spent the last 20 plus years working with clients to achieve the maximum from their retirement plans. Theresa has spent her career working at firms such as William M. Mercer, Inc. and Bisys Qualifed Plan Services in Pennsylvania before moving to Arizona in 1994. Theresa continued her career with Universal Pensions, Inc. before founding Sunwest Pensions in 1998.

Theresa and her highly skilled team at Sunwest Pensions work to create the best retirement plan and provide excellence in service to our clients. Theresa holds a QKA (Qualified 401(k) Administrator) designation with ASPPA and an APR designation with NIPA. In 2011, she also earned her Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) designation with the IRS.

Theresa was a member of the Board of Directors of NIPA and was President for 18 months during 2007 through 2008. Theresa spent six years as a board member with the Arizona Chapter of NIPA, including serving three years as President. Theresa has also worked with NIPA’s Annual Conference Committee for three years, served as it’s Chairperson for the 2003 conference, and has served on the Chapter Leadership Task Force. Theresa also worked in conjunction with NIPA, ASPPA and the IRS on Circular 230 and the ERPA Licensing Program. In 2016, Theresa was awarded NIPA’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her service to the industry.

Lyneal Malicdem, APA
Director of Operations

Lyneal has been in the industry for more than 12 years focusing on the administration of qualified retirement plans, specializing in defined contribution plan consulting, implementation and administration for both small and large plans. He has been an integral part of the growth of Sunwest Pensions. Lyneal is responsible for the operations of all aspects of Sunwest Pensions. He graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting. He furthered his education in the pension industry by obtaining the Accredited Pension Administrator (APA) designation from the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA). Lyneal is an active board member of the Phoenix chapter of the Western Pensions & Benefits Council. He is a trusted point of contact for both plan sponsors and financial advisors.

Derek Feldhahn, EA, MSPA

Derek Feldhahn is an Enrolled Actuary (E.A.), enrolled by the Joint Board under the Internal Revenue Service and Department of the Treasury to certify various pension calculations. Derek also is a Member of the Society of Pension Actuaries. Derek graduated from the University of New Mexico. While studying for exams, he worked at a small TPA firm in Albuquerque as an Actuarial Analyst. Derek then went on to work for the Newport Group in Chicago and most recently has worked for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) in Washington, DC. During his time at the PBGC, Derek worked with small to mid-sized plans and focused primarily on plans that are in danger of being terminated by the PBGC under Section 4042 of ERISA.

Jessica Smith, APA
Director of Administration

Jessica has been working in the retirement industry since 2008. Soon after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh, she learned the ropes working as the third-party administrator for the retirement plan of one of the United States’ largest unions. Jessica has been with Sunwest Pensions since 2011 and holds a NIPA Accredited Plan Administrator (APA) designation.

Lindsey Phillips, APA
Director of Administration

Lindsey Phillips has been in the industry for 13 years focusing on the administration of defined contribution plans, specializing in 401(k) and profit sharing plans for the last 9 years. Lindsey is responsible for the management of Sunwest Pensions’ Annual Recordkeeping Partners platform, while fulfilling administrative duties and resolving day to day client issues. She is a trusted point of contact for plan sponsors, financial advisors and recordkeeping partners for the administration and/or plan installation of defined contribution plans. Lindsey holds a NIPA Accredited Plan Administrator
